Delivering Strategic Change – Corporate Insurance Broking
Background
Our client, the largest corporate insurance broker in the world, needed to respond to market changes. The client designed a strategy that included segmenting the market into corporate clients, the middle market and SMEs.
The challenge
Six months after launching the strategy to its employees, our client was reporting poor progress with their strategy implementation. Morgan Clarke was asked to review why this was happening and design the right solution.
Morgan Clarke’s approach
Members of our consulting team visited a selection of UK offices based on a mix of geography, size and product specialisation. We learned that the strategy was not understood by staff. Whilst the strategy was clear to senior managers, the implications for organisation and personal change and the need to reorganise work practices were not.
- We worked with the executive team to facilitate a clear understanding of the current position and clarify the end game.
- The members of the team were helped to articulate a clear vision and strategy, with the emphasis on behavioural change and awareness of key performance indicators, through a series of facilitated workshops.
- We co-delivered a series of workshops to all 60 senior managers within the business, to enable them to fully understand the strategy and more importantly the implications of the strategy, especially for themselves.
- In parallel, we continued to provide mentoring, coaching and facilitation to the executive team, enabling them to understand how to deliver organisation change at each stage of the process.
- A template was developed with accompanying detailed notes to enable cascade briefings to be held throughout the business in clear, consistent, unambiguous language that enabled all staff to understand the strategy and the implementations for them.
Achievements
- The client achieved double-digit revenue growth, in-line with their business plan, following the introduction of the new strategy.
- Significant changes in hierarchy and senior level relationships were achieved, enabling a more customer responsive working environment to be established.
- Managers and business leaders clearly understood their roles and responsibilities in implementing the strategy.
